Frequently Asked Questions
Please review some of these commonly asked questions related to waxing/sugaring, and other services offered at Bare Skin Wax & Beauty!
Please reach out if you have any additional questions.

1. Does waxing hurt?
Waxing can cause some discomfort, as it involves removing hair from the root. The sensation is often described as a quick, stinging feeling that fades within seconds. Pain levels vary depending on your personal tolerance, the area being waxed, and how often you wax. Regular waxing can reduce discomfort over time as hair grows back finer.
2. How long does waxing last?
Waxing typically lasts between 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle, the area waxed, and your personal hair texture. With regular waxing, hair tends to grow back thinner and sparser over time, which can extend the time between appointments.
3. How often should I wax?
For the best results, it’s recommended to wax every 4 to 6 weeks. This allows your hair to reach the ideal length for effective removal. However, the frequency can vary depending on your hair growth cycle, the area being waxed, and personal preference. Areas like the face or underarms may need waxing every 2 to 3 weeks, while legs or bikini areas can go longer between sessions.
4. How long should my hair be?
For the best results, your hair should be at least ¼ inch long—about the length of a grain of rice. This ensures the wax can grip the hair properly for effective removal. If you’re unsure of length, let your hair grow for at least 2 to 3 weeks after your last shave before your appointment. Your esthetician can trim it if needed, so no need to worry!
5. How can I reduce discomfort during waxing?
Take An over-the-counter pain reliever, like ibuprofen, 30 minutes before your session can help.

6. Can I wax while pregnant?
Yes, you can get waxed while pregnant, and it’s generally safe for most expecting moms. However, due to hormonal changes, your skin may be more sensitive, which can make waxing feel slightly more uncomfortable than usual. It’s important to let your esthetician know you’re pregnant so they can adjust their technique and ensure your comfort. If you’re in your third trimester, some salons may have special positioning to keep you comfortable during the session. Always consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns, especially if you have a high-risk pregnancy or specific medical conditions.
7. Can i wax on my menstrual cycle?
PRE WAX
Yes, you can get waxed during your period, but keep in mind that your skin may be more sensitive due to hormonal changes, which can make the experience feel slightly more uncomfortable. If you choose to wax during this time, wearing a fresh tampon or menstrual cup is recommended for hygiene purposes.
8. How soon before a special event should I get waxed?
It’s best to get waxed 2–3 days before a special event to allow any redness or sensitivity to subside. If it’s your first time waxing, consider booking your appointment a week in advance to see how your skin reacts, or book 2-3 waxes before to allow to skin to get used to waxing
-
Let Your Hair Grow: Ensure your hair is at least ¼ inch long (about the size of a grain of rice) for the best results.
-
Exfoliate Gently: Lightly exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin and help prevent ingrown hairs.
-
Clean Your Skin: Shower before your appointment to keep the area clean, but avoid heavy lotions or oils, as they can interfere with the wax.
-
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin supple, which can reduce discomfort.
-
Dress Comfortably: Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent irritation after your wax.
-
Mind Your Medications: Avoid retinoids or exfoliating products on the area a few days prior, as they can make your skin more sensitive.
-
Consider Pain Relief: If you're concerned about discomfort, take an over-the-counter pain reliever (like ibuprofen) 30 minutes before your appointment.
-
Skip Caffeine & Alcohol: They can increase skin sensitivity, so it’s best to avoid them on the day of your appointment.
Avoid tanning 24–48 hours before and after waxing, as your skin will be more sensitive and prone to irritation or sunburn. If you’re planning to tan, wait at least two days after your waxing appointment.
9. Can I tan before or after waxing?
10. What should I do if I get ingrown hairs after waxing?
If you develop ingrown hairs, gently exfoliate the area with a mild scrub or exfoliating glove and keep the skin moisturized. Applying products with salicylic acid or tea tree oil can help reduce inflammation. Avoid picking or squeezing ingrown hairs to prevent scarring.
11. Is it normal to have redness or bumps after waxing?
Yes, mild redness and small bumps are common after waxing, especially for those with sensitive skin or those new to waxing. These usually subside within 24–48 hours. Applying a cool compress and soothing products like aloe vera can help calm the skin.

12. How old do you have to be to get waxed?
There’s no universal age limit, but Bare Skin Wax & Beauty requires clients under 18 to have parental consent, especially for intimate waxing services.
13. Can I wax if I have tattoos or piercings?
Yes, you can wax over healed tattoos and around piercings. Avoid waxing over fresh tattoos or unhealed piercings, as this can cause irritation. Let your esthetician know so they can work carefully around those areas.

Yes, waxing is for everyone! Many men get waxed for areas like the chest, back, shoulders, arms, legs, and facial services like eyebrows, ears and nose. The process is the same, and estheticians are trained to work with all body types.
